Beyond Milk

Step 1: Question substance.
Step 2: Put substance in mouth.
Step 3: Ponder next step - Swallow? Spit out?

Bea ventured into the world of solid foods recently. We debated on the timing, but in the end, I think Bea was ready as demonstrated in the video below where she basically pulls Meghan's hand with the spoon into her mouth.

So far she has only experienced the gourmet flavors of rice cereal mixed with breast milk. However, we plan to introduce her to some very exciting foods like peas, zucchini and carrots as soon as we figure out how to use the fancy baby food cooker and blender Bea's Aunt Gretchen got her.

The biggest upside of the solids...Bea dropped a night feeding!

  1. Good luck! For some silly reason, this seemed like a hugely daunting transition with each kid for me. Ov ate "baby food" for months but Jesse had yogurt and applesauce til he could pick stuff up and then we moved on to avocados, bananas, cheese, etc. Never had to buy a jar or prepare anything special for him. Way easier the second time. :)
So great that you're doing this blog btw.

  2. I had a hard time getting the spoon out of my boys' mouth. They loved chewing on those rubber-coated spoons! I second the yogurt suggestion - that was a huge hit with Jack & Kees. Thanks for keeping us posted! Gretchen.

  4. Love the video. You can keep those up. She looks really confused, but at the same time, she obviously liked this first meal of solid food. Good job, folks! Arncha glad to do this instead of a milking? :-)
